Climbing Mt Shasta is a favorite pastime of my friend Chester Kyle. Chester was the first person I met when I moved to Mt Shasta I have known Chester now for years and have always admired his desire to seek out all of the most remote areas on or around our neck of the woods. It's these things, as well as his complete knowledge of the Mt Shasta area that make Chester Kyle a local legend. Climbing the rims of every mountain and then skiing off them is mandatory in the Kyle household, this guy should be doing Mountain Dew commercials!
I have so many friends that climb Shasta in May and June to take advantage of the spring skiing conditions. The locals that climb and ski the mountain are referred to as the "Shasta Cribblers" ( Home = Crib ~ Mt Shasta + Home = cribblers) This is where the Sizzler language was all invented by my friends here in Mt Shasta, way back when we all hung out at the "G-House" (Guide House across from Mt Shasta Super). After work, the mountain guides, rafting guides, fishing guides and other guides would show up at this house and share our war stories from work that day.
People would come from all over just to sleep free on the lawn in front of the G-House to party, get rest, and be ready the next day to summit Mt Shasta. We referred to them as "lawn larva" in their sleeping bags because at night it was quite the site to see 10 to 15 people sleeping on the G-House lawn. Those were the days, living in Mt Shasta is life at its best, then and now!
Yvonne and her dad Chuck came to catch some trout on their annual father/daughter outing. Last year we fished the Klamath and had a ball. This year we all decided to try the Upper Sac raft trip and once again we had a very successful day. Yvonne hooked into many nice fish but none that gave her a fight like this one!
Nice Trout Yvonne! Take care, see you next year for the 3rd annual....
Last year Yvonne caught the most fish and the biggest on the Klamath. But this year was different, dad showed up armed and ready to do his best to out-fish his daughter! He didn't catch the biggest, but he did catch the most, which makes our
annual outing tied at the end of regulation for 2005. Next year will be the championship to see who wins it all for the ages! I can't wait the anticipation is killing me, who will win?.......
Marty Wilson is a character who comes and visits me a few times a year. His warm energy and comical style is always a welcome date in my guide calendar!
The raft trips are going well as the water levels decrease and the leaves start appearing on all the trees in which they act as a Motel 6 for the all the bugs checking out by 11am to get out on the water to bounce around and play with the fish. "We'll leave the light on for ya"!
As Shasta catches some snoozes, some friends of mine came over from my old home town of Portola, California. Not the one located by SF, but the one nestled near Quincy. It was great to see my ole pal Scott Kehoe and spend some time with him out in my office.
We stopped off at Rainbow Island to fish the side channel and experience the scenic beauty. Scott and I talked about
old friends, teachers, childhood pranks, girlfriends and our
PHD'S.(Portola High School Diploma's)
Just then Shasta saw a fish rise!
Scott hooked this trout as we were sailing down another current. Must be one of those old Portola fly fishing tricks!
We hooked some smaller trout on Poxy Back Birds Nest size 14
and lost some others we wished we could have had back. But neither of us minded because the weather was perfect, mixed with Scott's ration of humor brought back memories from both of our childhoods and we laughed the entire day.
Scott hooked as many as 8 in this one spot! Which earns him honors as Sizzler of the Week! CONGRATULATIONS SIZZLER.Thanks so much for coming up and visiting me see you soon up here or over at the Sierra Music Festival July 4th Weekend in Quincy. jt
Ken and Howard Nestell came to visit on their annual outing with me. Last time we were on the Klamath River, so this time
we elected to do the rafting trip on the Upper Sac River. Right off the bat Ken hooked a trout and all was grand.
Ken is an expert at displaying his catches, this one hand side profile is the one he's famous for! What a stud, he's even better when he releases them un-harmed.

Meanwhile back in Chile, Francisco took one of our customers to the Lower Petrohue and caught this lovely salmon on his fly rod. We hope to see some of you down there for this 2006 season.

Over on the Maullin, Chris hooked into this 8lb McCloud Rainbow! Francisco told me to tell everyone hello from Chile!! I sure do miss it down there, I love the food, wine, fishing and views! I will be there this January 15th til March 15th, but we will be providing guided trips all year around, weather permitting of course.
Back on the Upper Sac, Howard is just reeling in a nice Upper Sac Rainbow. He hooked up right under the Gibson overpass bridge around the corner is April Falls so we tied off to land this fish and we will proceed to crash through the class 3 1/2 rapid!
Nice trout Howard! What a great picture to end on. Hope your week goes well, stay tune as we share more and more pics with you, the Sizzlers!**MANY RIVERS TO YOU, JACK TROUT**HAVE OPENING FOR 2 ANGLERS JUNE 7TH AND 8TH-TUE/WED
