Sizzlers it`s so great to be back after a week of possibly the best fishing I`ve ever seen in Chile! This is a picture I took of the Volcano Pintiagudo on a recent rafting trip to search new frontiers and boldly go! My German friend Christine went along for the ride on her first rafting trip. This is the Rio Petrohue, which reminds me of a huge McCloud River with it¥s glacial colors and it's rich nutrient based content, McCloud River Rainbows flurish here in all their glory.

I met Christine on the Train to Temuco, after talking on the train we decided to hook up and head to the Isle of Chiloe. The Isle of Chiloe is south of Puerto Montt, we took a 30 minute ferry ride that only added to the start of a romantic adventure! We rented a house on 5 acres for $40 US per night and lived with the Chilotens that inhabit this unbelievable paradise island. This picture was taken in front of Lago LLanquihue in Puerto Varas. I could listen to her accent and look into those gorgeous eyes anytime between the sun and the moon. I will have more pics from Chiloe on a another adventure, so stay tuned Sizzlers! jt

While on the Isle of Chiloe, We were interrupted by a German guy who lived on the island as a volunteer rescuing penguins. He asked if we could take this guy to the vet, he had been injured by waves that threw him up agianst the rocks. I could almost look into this birds eyes and realize he needed my help. He was talking to me all the way as we headed into Ancud to the vet to save his life.

After returning from the vet the volunteers fed Alfonzo the Penguin and he ate the entire plate of sardines. He has to eat to beat the infection and hopefully the antibiotics will heal him from inside. I asked the SKY PILOT to take a few days of my life and give it to the penguin, for it`s the gift of sharing that makes life so wonderful. Stay tune as we return to the Isle of Chiloe to visit Alfonzo and check out his recovery. Hey kids can you name how many different species of penguins there are in the world? I want them named and give me some info on what areas they live in. The winner will get a free Jack Trout Guide Trip for the winner and Dad. Please only kids under 16 can enter.jt

My first group arrived with high expectations and boxes of cigars. John Wilhelm and his two friends, Take Yosota (pronounced Tak¥a) and Rob Brown former ISE and fan of the famous Ed Rice, my mentor. We ate great food and drank into the night as the stage was set for what was to be a terrific week of fly fishing.

Out on the Petrohue, Take caught 11 McCloud rivers Rainbows in this one spot, none of which were huge but it was great start to an adventure that would last a lifetime. We caught most of the fish on PT's size 14. This river is plum full of healthy rainbows and you can see them as clear as day in the windows that appear through the lenses of my Maui Jim sunglasses. This river also produces brown trout and the occasional coho or escapee hook-up!

Take ended up catching 15 that day and was happy for once that he out caught everyone else in the group! The views were spectacular and I was as far from being homesick as a kid at an amusement park. The time always flies by so fast in Chile, and that night we looked up into the sky at the Southern Cross that pointed in the directions of the places we liked to fish.

John Wilhelm got into the action with this healthy rainbow and commented on how strong they fought. My guides were fired up, and the Volcano Osorno loomed over us watching some greigos laughing, joking and enjoying a day in the sun while having some fun.

We have a new pontoon boat for the 2005 season and my guide Edgar rows it with pride. This guy looks just like Jim Roberts of Anderson, the owner of the NEW** Fly Den Fly Shop off of Balls Ferry Exit off of interstate 5, 10 miles before Redding. It¥s the equipment that makes for a safe and enjoyable adventure while in Chile. In life your either getting better or worse, we are always trying to provide you with the best in Chilean travel and that I guarantee. Jack Trout

Rob Brown of Moraga was possible the most jovial guy I`ve ever seen guided. He was in his element here on the Rio Maullin (moo-jean) and all us joined in to capture the energy he eluded through his dynamic and charismatic personality. He¥s a real national treasure as he represented the United States in a fun and unique fashion one could learn from. Armed with his fly rod in one hand and a cigar pressed in his lips, the day was always accompanied by a warm smile that all of us felt. Thanks Rob! ®"WE LOVE YOU MAN!!!" Trucha Guias...

Lunch everyday was always awesome, Francisco's wife Veronica has some bomber food ideas and all of us were just jolly rancher, especially after the fine bottle of Chilean Wine and the usual group harrasement!

After lunch Take, Nico and I drifted up stream to fish an area Nico knew. It was a kind of a laguna looking side chanel that produce some 12 to 14 inch browns. I was nymphing on the otherside of the island when I heard a scream from Nicolaus that sounded like a big one was on......!

Well here you go Sizzlers, the start of the lunkers being caught in Chile. After Lunch the bite really tuned on and Take, Nico and I were in the honey. I caught 7 nymphing with indicators off of a riffle. Nicolaus seen here is coming to America in August to start a Chilean/North Amrican guiding program that will be started by Jack Trout Guide Service. Yes, he will be a legal working alien through Intrax Cultural Exchange, and he will be the first to do so. I want to help diplomacy in Chile, and look forward to having him start his training on our local waters in Mt Shasta in August and September of 2005!!! I have my declaration from the Chilean Consulate out of San Francisco to do the hosting and outfitting I provide to my customers in Chile. Let`s give Nico a warm welcome and embrace the future that¥s bright, gotta wear shades!

Take then caught this nice German Brown that sent me into a day dream in which Christine was the star of the film, and we were alone on an island with no one around and the waves crashing in on the beach which was our blue lagoon.....

Snap out of it Trout, Rob¥s got a nice fish, How now Rob Brown! **SIZZLER OF THE WEEK AWARD WINNER, CONGRATULATIONS SIZZLER!**

Take had such great memories on the Rio Maullin, Nico is an expert guiding it, and I just came along for the ride to snap photos, fish and think about a girl who left to visit the south for a while to see great places and expand her horizons.

And then it happened, the fish of a lifetime, a fish that could launch a thousand ships! It could of not happened to a nicer guy and I think in some funny way, these things are meant to be. A 12lb McCLOUD RAINBOW ESCAPEE ON THE RIO MAULLIN! Even Livingston Stone would be proud, da man that made it happen back in the late 1800's shipping the first McCloud River Rainbows to Chile! This was the biggest rainbow trout I've ever seen in my life in a river and Rob commented, it must of been a little "wuffle snuff!" I commented, "Rob, what the hell is wuffle snuff, sounds illegal?" Rob said, that his grand father used that word for good luck. And then We all started singing the praises of his grand poppy and this great new word, wuffle snuff. Not that I would ever use such a word on my web site! jt
and on the last day all was great! The time had gone by so quickly and all we were left with were memories, stories and over 150 fish caught and released. I was so proud of my guides and thought to myself holy cow, this was my best week ever in Chile, I mean all around, with food, lodging, dinner and trout, how could you beat it. You know Sizzlers with my program in Chile, the price was so right, my guides are so tight, and life is great. Like a bowl of Chilean Empanadas with some Aji staring at you, only to be finished with a pisco sour and nice comfortable shower and bed. Team Trucha prevails once again in Chile! Thank you so much John Wilhelm for booking your friends for magical 9 day adventure! I will never forget you Sizzlers! Jack Trucha y los Guias, Nico y Edgar cuidate! (take care dude)

That day the sunset was gold, kinda like the week we had together and after the job we all did, we deserved a medal of honor. And I stopped and thought to myself, It`s like the book was being written as I lived it vicariously through the eyes of the customers, Only to be one day reincarnated as a may fly that has one day to live. Making the best of what life has been provided me, flying around on a merry go round as the earth spins with me on one axis. jt Thank you for watching Sizzlers more Chilean adventures to come in less than before.
