*HAPPY THANKSGIVING, STEELHEAD FISHING BEST IN DECEMBER!*
I hope all of you Sizzlers out there have a wonderful Thanksgiving. To all the troops in Afganistan and Iraq that email me, thanking me for putting up my stories. my heart goes out to you. Like my father said to me growing up in Portola, Califonia. "This to will pass my son." To all the others out there, when life hands you a bummer, think of the troops and what they're enduring right now, this always puts things in perspective for me. God Bless our young men and women who are serving and are not with their families this holiday season, may this era of darkness end someday....
How about if we just call this mess, and you all come home and we fly fish! (I Wish things were that easy)
Guide Mike Hibbard got our customer Alan Sonneman into this
seasoned stuff turkey! Mike said this Steely was a real gobbler, but it fought like a spring chicken???? Way to go Alan, thanks James for booking the trip, See you next time!
Nice steelhead James Dickey! I think I'll take the pictures next trip......jt
Gregg Foster and his father Mike Foster, came out for a two day adventure, which found us on the first day up near Iron Gate Dam. The second day was scheduled for the Happy Camp section. Gregg landed this very bright red steely and the trip started out with a bang!
The second day was great, with pretty consistant action. Mike Foster fished this section of river near Happy Camp and caught 7 in one spot! Gregg hooked into a absolute monster, I estimate over 10 lbs++++ but it got off when it ran so far down stream and Gregg's legs, didn't have enough pegs. That's two trips in a row through Happy Camp with a 10lb plus fish on!!!
Look close Sizzlers, The photo shows reds below this riffle on the Klamath River. When I drive along the Klamath River I look for these reds. Unlike other rivers that we fish, it isn't the type of water you fish that idenifies where the fish lie. It's the reds that the salmon produce, that flags the location that is best to fish for Steelhead Trout. Look for reds and beds, and you will find the Steelhead below and ahead! jt
Mike Foster caught this Jack Salmon on an egg pattern this past week... See you again soon Mike, you still have two trips left on your 4 pack gift certificate. Maybe I'll see you in December when the BIG BOYS come rolling in!
Nice fish Gregg! Did you know you can access all of my past stories for the last four years on my handy dandy archive calendar, over on the top right of this web site! Just click
on the date that is bold for any given month, and click on the previous month, below the calendar to go back in time. I have always hoped that this site will help document what is going on now, for future generations to see and compare to.jt
The Happy Camp Riffle! Floating this section of the Klamath River makes me feel like I'm back in Chile. This is a must see section of river that can produce the biggest steelhead. This is as close you will ever get to Patagonia in California. Best times to fly fish....NOW!!!!!
Happy Net!
On kim's first day of fly fishing he did great! Landing 4 or 5 adults that day and remaining extremly patient, thus to land the flurry booger.... Later he commented how much fun he had fighting this Steelhead Trout. I handed him a hankerchief and said, "Good Job!"
Nice fish Kim see you in the Spring! jt
Way to go Kim! You're my, SIZZLER OF THE WEEK AWARD WINNER!!
CONGRATULATIONS SIZZLER!!
Another nice Steelhead Trout, Kim thank you again!
Ah Dahhhh! I would like to talk to those of you who have recently asked me to keep Steelhead Trout on our trips...THE ANSWER IS NO! ONLY SALMON.... Please be it known that me nor any of my guides ever keep trout or steelhead, hatchery or native. If you would like to keep fish, call another guide service. You must not of fish the Klamath River in the 70's when it was dead from anglers keeping everything they caught in the 60's. Isn't it great to see fish like this being caught and released every week? Let's avoid too much month at the end of the fish, if you want to keep your fish go ahead, but not on our guided adventures please. Jack Trout and the Guides. **HOPE YOU ENJOYED THAT ADVENTURE!! SEE YOU NEXT WEEK! JACK TROUT *
