**CHILE SIGN UPS** STEELHEAD FISHING STARTS NEXT WEEK!**

Middle Falls water:

Middle Falls on the McCloud River is a special place to visit. I like to cross over the river and hang out right below the falls. I often think about John Muir when I'm here, his quote from his book, John of the mounatins, 1938. "This grand show is eternal." "It is always sunrise somewhere; the dew is never dried up at once; a shower is forever falling; vapor ever rising. Eternal sunrise, eternal sunset, eternal dawn and gloaming, on seas and continents and islands, each in it's turn, as the round earth rolls." Thanks John!

Mccloud tube:

Fishing below the dam can be productive, I like to fish in September/October right under the McCloud Dam where the tube spits out the water. The trout can't go any further and some big browns reside there as we speak. On this day we caught one 14 incher and left for a warmer area on the river...

Mcloud high stickers:

High sticking is key to catching trout on nymphs on the McCloud River. I think it's important to stay attached to your fly. By taking up all the slack line, you actually slow your drift up a microcosm, and make it easier for yourself to detect a quick striking McCloud Rainbow. Remember, these trout can spit out a fly as fast as a breath! Stay attached to your flies Sizzlers, and soon you'll be seeing the hits. jt

McCloud Ash Brown:

Fishing the edges and confluences of rivers can be very productive anywhere. On this day, I had changed our fly fishing method three different times. We started out with drys in the bubble lines, we then switched to a Stimulator size 12, with a size 16 Black Copper John as the dropper nymph and ended up fishing with an indicator, two flies and two weights. All were productive, but it was the type of water we were fishing that dictated the method used. Ken Fye hooked into a 20 inch brown, high stick drifting along the edge of this rock.

Ed Dahmer:

To catch the brown, we used an indicator and weight to get down along the deep edge of the rock and drift the fly slowly along the side. In the picture, the river was only a few feet deep, if that. Using a stimular dropper is very effective and a fun way to fish, and even beginners can pick this method up quick!

Hannan Paul Mason Aug 2004:

Got the invite from my best friend Jerry Hannan to come down to the Paul Masson Mountain Winery to see him play and warm up the audience for the Doobie Brothers! The concert was located in the Saratoga Hills near San Jose. Jerry gave us a great show and the crowd enjoyed his tunes and lyrics. www.jerryhannan.com for CD's.

Boobies Paul and Michael:

It was so great to be there and witness my bud, Jerry make it on the big time gravy train. This is the guy I used to hang out with 15 years ago talking about this, now we were here! I had dinner with the Doobies and thought the band was awesome! A bunch of nice family guys, who ain't firing up anything but Doobie music! This picture of Paul and Michael is right before they went in front of the crowd. They let me stand right on the stage so I could get some great shots for www.mtshasta.com.

Doobie Brothers together!:

On stage their performance was magic! Tommy Johnston played hits that he wrote like; "Listen To The Music", "China Grove" and "Without You." This was the best concert sound I've heard since the Dave Matthews Concert, and their bus driver Don doesn't pull toggle release knobs while passing over tall bridges above rivers...... In other words, they were as crisp as the albums they've produced for over 30 years!

Patrick Simmons &Trout:

After the concert all the people back stage were invited to visit with the band. I met Patrick Simmons the guy who wrote; "Black Water"(one of my all- time favorites!) and "South City Midnight Lady." He was a cool dude and had no problem taking a picture with a fly fishing guide from Mt Shasta. This guy helped make my childhood enjoyable, how many nights I sat up listening to the Doobies Greatest Hits, and now I was meeting them!! Patrick Simmons, YOU'RE MY SIZZLER OF THE WEEK AWARD WINNER!! CONGRATULATIONS SIZZLER, LET'S GO FISHING WITH HUEY LEWIS!!! JACK TROUT P.S. In that song "Black Water," where did you see cat fish jumping?? I never knew they rose...?

Patrick kid autograph:

What a great memory! One of the all-time greatest classic rock bands. The Doobie Brothers 2004!

Lower Sac Jerry McIntosh:

The Lower Sac has slowed down as of recent. Jerry caught his first trout this past week, but the fishing overall was spotty. Use a Fox Pupa size 14 tan, Pink Egg or a Micro Mayfly size 18. Colder weather this week could put off fishing. Klamath is coming along, should be ready by the end of this month! jt

Middle Falls Moss:

And in the end, all is still flowing like life itself. You can count on the falls of the McCloud River to be constantly turning its waters over its shoulders, and at the bottom of the falls you can look up and see eternity. The sound you hear is the music of nature, and the water comes over like it did the first day I arrived on earth and like it will on the day I leave. jt **HOPE YOU LIKED THAT STORY MANY MORE STORIES TO CONTINUE AS WE HEAD INTO FALL!** MANY RIVERS TO YOU, JACK TROUT
