I can hardly believe it, the Upper Sac is open year around? I think the hardest thing to decipher is how it got passed??? I have no opinion on this other than to say, we'll just have to see it unfold... When I first heard of them opening the Sac, I thought of all the spawning trout which need to catch a break for future generations to flourish, and perhaps the enjoyment of a grandson someday. The DFG says, the winter mortality rate would be higher than the potential harvest. Equated into this is the actual number of user days in the winter. (Department Of Fish and Game, Mike Dean says, two out of every three days will be actual fishable weather) I don't know all the math involved or calculations for winter user days, but most important to me is how the DFG will manage the new regulations. Folks we'll just have to see and monitor the situation. Could a day lost in August due to the dog days of Summer, be regained on a warm December day and at what cost to the fisheries health?

Well here she is! The Upper Sac near Cantara made for a magical day for Doug Akay as he fished this juicy bank and hooked a fatty... By the way, Union Pacific is doing a great job of cleaning the Upper Sac River and is donating thousands of dollars a year to do it!! Right on Union Pacific, Cantara was so clean the other day, no water bottles, Clean, like clean, when you first came on the scene in 1894. I'm proud of you UNION PACIFIC YOU'RE MY SIZZLERS OF THE WEEK! CONGRATULATIONS SIZZLERS!!!

Wow! What a beautiful trout, but holy cow what happen to its tail? What's up trout, cat's got your tail?.... I think an otter got it for real.... Doug, see you in the fall. jt
Over on the Upper McCloud, things are starting to get exciting as Michael brings in another nice trout. Shasta is ready and willing to help net the trout!

Nice trout Michael! This picture is for all of those who think I appear too much... jt
The other day I decided to get Shasta loaded up in the X Terra
and head up and explore the Eddy Crater. Why not? it's located right behind my house, and can be accessed using A 4 WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLE AND A HIT OF COMMON SENSE. I suggest you pick up a Shasta/Trinity Forest Map first. Call 530-926-4511 Manny will answer most likely..... Once up near Morgan Meadows you will see meadows of wild flowers, like these yellow lupine growing at 7000 feet and a view of the eddy crater!!

The Eddy Crater standing proud at 9025 feet! I'm always amazed at how close you can get. All this metamorphic rock reminds me that the Lizard Races are August 7th in Doyle. I'm gonna be there this year with my entry, I've been training my pet blue belly lizard for three months getting him ready for the race. I named my Lizard, Siskiyou!

Up high, at 8000 plus I saw bear grass growing everywhere. I like these flowers. They look like what an alien would use as a microphone to sing to the mountain, like any good alien would do visiting....

Aren't they just beautiful! An amazing flowering grass that grows at high elevations in this area. Maybe so they can enjoy the mountain also.... Bear Grass what a find!!!
And some days, it's not about the fishing.. JT
And more tiger lilies than one can imagine, in many locations, but only blooming for another two weeks, so get out and get on it! Please do not pick wild flowers or try to transplant them, it doesn't work. Just stop and enjoy the scene while it lasts. Natures garden can put on quite a show if you know where to look!!

Back in June when the flows were higher than 700 CFS!!! Steelhead hatchery trout like this were being caught. Sure is sad that this Steelhead is probably dieing due to low flows, lack of oxygen and warm water.... Bureau of Reclamation, when will you wake up!!! Never lower than 1000 CFS, there's more than just Salmon in this river, there's a whole habitat, why don't you get out of your recliner chair and go take a look at the river, it's unhealthy!! Jack Trout 530-926-4540. Don't be cowards, be heros with everyone including the species that exist in the Klamath River BELOW IRON GATE DAM....
