**UPPER SAC RAFT TRIP SIGN UP START NOW!**
Mt Shasta, towering at an astounding 14,162 feet was up bright and cheery one morning as I headed to the Klamath River on a so called "commute to work". The air was crisp and the views were wide, as I made my way through the Shasta Valley. Mt Shasta was looking on in her white sheets of snow, blanketing her until the arrival Spring and Summer sunshine cause her to shed her Winter comforter. This season will be one of the best in years for enjoying outside recreation. We have plenty of water this year!! jt
Chris Welch, called me last week and wanted to float the Lower Sac with his buddy Scott Amman. Scott was a novice, but was eager to learn whatever it took to hook fish on the Lower Sac! He had heard stories for years of big hard fighting rainbows, that could take you into your backing on a single run or possible take YOU down river... After a slow start, we stopped off and waded an area where I could work with Scott on his drifts and line management techniques. After about 30 minutes, he started getting hook ups pretty regularly. He then hooked into a monster that jumped clean out of the water and looked to be about 6 to 7 lbs.!!! It threw the hook after the third jump and was gone...
I was proud of Scott when he brought in this healthy rainbow.
It looks to be about 3 lbs or so, Scott was so excited and I thought to myself what a fast learner he was becoming.
Chris then got into the action with this little philly. Chris has been fly fishing with us for years, and is quite fun to be out with just about anywhere his fly rod takes he and an ole pal! take care Chris, jt
Then, Scott hooked into this beautiful red sided rainbow that put up a great fight also! In all, Scott hooked 6 fish here and landed three!! Which makes him, SIZZLER OF THE WEEK!
CONGRATULATIONS SIZZLER!!!! WOW!, Redding trout dress up nice, don't they!
A closer look reveals that nice trout can be found right now in the Lower Sacramento River, give us a call if you need some guiding. April will be awesome as always. jt
Mike Hibbard was guiding Phil and Mike Sapunor in snow storm
mid day caddis hatch, the fishing was terrific that day. I saw Mike Sapunor hook up on three in row, through the groves of caddis that danced on the water between us and them.
I really love this time of year, for it's the return of the Redbud, which reminds us how lucky we are to live and visit here to witness nature's annual spectacle. Redbud is a contrast in color to any other. In a forest of greens
and yellows, its colors are a welcomed addition to any Spring bloom.
The Pit River looks great through the Pit 3 reach, I was driving to Henderson Springs on a guide trip the other day and was impressed how fishable it looked. Can't wait for April 24th, 2004 When all the Tribs open!
Mike Kelly and his son Brandon, came up for a trip on the Klamath River. Enthusiasm ran high as Brandon hooked up on three half pounders while wading this stretch.
Mike, was happy as he brought in his first trout ever on a fly rod! To top it off, right in front of where his wife was parked watching as we floated by. We then anchored, to land the steelhead and chat!!! That's the luck of the lady!!
Mike landed this nice cromer steelhead weighing in at 3 lbs.
Way to go Mike and Brandon, fun trip!!!**ALRIGHT WHAT A GREAT WEEK IN THE TROUT CHRONICLES, STAY TUNED AS WE HEAD TO HENDERSON SPRINGS, RAFT THE UPPER SAC ON A PREGAME WARM-UP
AND CHECK OUT THE LOWER SAC.... ANOTHER ADVENTURE NEXT THURSDAY! MANY RIVERS TO YOU, JACK TROUT**
