San Mateo Sportsman Show Jan 28th to February 1st, See You! Snow after Christmas Storms 2003: After coming back home to Mt Shasta after New Years, I had to call my neighbor George Utter to have him clean out my drive way using his huge snow bucket. What would of taken me 3 hours he did in about 10 minutes. It's amazing the impact of these last series of storms. We sure have a tremendous amount of snow pack for Spring and Summer, but we need a few more storms to guarantee that. jt Larry on the Klamath 2004: No sooner did I get home, unpack my bags and get resettled in a climate completely the opposite of what I had been experiencing over the Holidays when the phone started to ring from anglers wanting to go catch Steelhead on the Klamath River. After two days of rest, I was back out on the Klamath for a full week of guiding! Larry here sure enjoyed his time on the Klamath, likewise, it's a great time of year to catch a whopper!! John Walsh and Jack 2004 Klamath: His partner, John Walsh also had a fine day out on the Klamath River. Especially when he hooked into this nice 5 lber right off the bat! He's gonna start his own show called, "America's Most Wanted Trout!" With the name, "JOHN WALSH", this guy must hear a lot of jokes like that. In the past I've guided Bryan Adams, Joe Walsh, even George Bush. Fortunately the last name wasn't the real guy either. Blue Heron Jan 2004: As we made our way down the river I saw in the distance a Great Blue Heron, lurking its way up to a meal as it watches the Steelhead run up the mighty Klamath. It was great to be back home on the river I know and love. I never take for granted, red hot fly fishing and successful guide trips in January! Scott Leary out of the boat: My next group was Scott Leary and Chris Rand from Marin County. These guys are a barrel of laughs and the fishing wasn't too bad either! Scott fished out of the boat and before long Scott had his first hook up. Scott Leary before Island: After cruising by the R Ranch section of the river we began to get consistent action! Scott had now landed 6 or 7 adults and it seemed that the bite was really on as we continued to get hits left and right... Then Scott landed this beauty before we hit the islands. Scott Below bridge: Not too long after that we drifted below an old bridge where Scott hooked into another monster that fought him hard in a relatively slow current. I then thought to myself, What a fantastic day that Scott was having. His average size fish was about 3 lbs !!! jt Scott Leary and a big smile: Nice Steelhead Scott! You're my Sizzler of the Week!! Congratulations Sizzler!! Chris Rand: Scott's partner Chris Rand also got into the action with this nice 4 lber ! Chris is a character out on the river and holds the record for funniest facial expressions in a 48 hour period. This guy should have his own comedy show. He's a piece of work for sure.... take care Chris. jt Scott and Jack: The next day wasn't much different, a few more boats, but that was to be expected on a Saturday during a holiday weekend. That didn't stop Scott from hauling in a few more LUNKERS!!! Scott, you can leave your hat on: One more for the road!!! What a great couple of days of fishing and we didn't even show all the 1/2 lbers either. Thanks for a great week of guiding, the temps were in the 50's the second day and Chris and Scott left tired with smiles on their faces.
