Wednesday, May 28th, 2003**MT SHASTA IS THE PLACE TO BE!** Fern magic: This fern is living large, right on the edge of this hillside with a great view of the Upper Sac! Now's the time to start thinking about getting up here, how about for our 4th of July celebration? I think the rivers will be in good shape and there's no better place to be than here in the Mt Shasta area. Mark Buell Upper Sac 2003: Meanwhile out in the raft with Mark Buell and Shasta Trout Dog can be an exciting venue! Holding on the edges of these obvious trout food lines can be productive and fun. Just go deep and use a big bug like a poxy back birds nest size 10, they love that bug early season.jt Mark Buell Upper Sac 2003 with trout: Mark with his catch! What this trout lacks in size was surely made up by fight and tenacity. This was Mark's first float trip on the Upper Sac and he thoroughly loved it. Tom Stienstra SF Chronical: Here's Tom Stienstra of the San Francisco Chronical out of the raft hooking up on a nice Upper Sac Trout. Later that day we saw two Bald Eagles protecting their nest from a Coppers Hawk. It was another reason this is such a special spectacular 9 mile drift. Tom Stienstra SF Chronical and trout: Tom is the best writer fly fishing outdoorsmen I've ever ran across. Most writers can't fish, they usually own one fly rod and scare all the fish when they use it. Not Tom this guy is an expert fly fishermen, He walks the walk and talks the talk and this is why Mr. Tom Stienstra, is my SIZZLER OF THE WEEK AWARD WINNER!!!! Trout Mobile 2003: The Trout Mobile.... This raft has been such a pleasure to own, outfit and guide out of! This time of year rafting the Upper Sac is my life, There's no place I'd rather be! jt Nice trout 2003 Upper Sac: Nice trout caught by Pat Patterson this past week on the Upper Sac. He used a big Stone Fly pattern nymphing to entice this healthy Upper Sacer. Fish are hitting more in the middle and tailouts of the runs, as opposed to the top of the riffles..... (less CFS) 2003 Upper Sac Shasta Trout Dog: My Trout Dog Shasta, sporting her new fly fishing hat! What a great partner out on my guide trips. This dog points at rising trout and is always up for a guide trip. Come up and see for yourself, She's never in the way, a few hairs from time to time, but always wanting to do the right thing and get our customers into trout. Way to go Shasta!!! Jack Baker with one on!!!: Here's Jack Baker of Redding with a nice 16" trout he caught out of the raft. Unfortunately I knocked it off when I went to net it, oh well we were gonna let it go anyway. (I guess you call that a scooper blooper!) Dog Creek Over Pass 1915: This is the Dog Creek Overpass built in 1915 to aid travelers in their journeys north. Before this time the railroad passenger trains were the only convient way to head up to Oregon or even Alaska for that matter. This highway was also the demise of Ross McCloud's Shasta Springs Resort that relyed on passagers trains to deliver guest. After that time people became more independent driving their own vehicles soon after Shasta Springs was forced to close. This over pass isnot used today but is a standing relic of the past and I'm glad it wasn't torn down, it's beautiful in it's design.**HOPE YOU LIKE THIS WEEK'S ADVENTURES!!! NEXT WEEK THE FISHERS, AND A GUIDE NAME JACK TROUT GO IN SEARCH OF McCLOUD RAINBOWS, SHOULD BE A GREAT ADEVNTURE!
