A river none any other, in looks, in beauty and ideal size. This year started out promising with lots of mid day May Fly hatches and weather for only the hearty fly fishermen. It's like the four seasons in one day, crazy weather that benefit the trout and their Spring spawn. So lets embrace this season and make it a point to get out more this year and enjoy something that's still free to do! ( it just cost a lot to get there!) Bill pulling one in 04 26 03 McCloud: You remember Bill Fisher from last year on his first ever fly fishing expedition, he did good, but nothing in comparison to this years opener where he hooked and landed 17 trout on drys as well as nymphs!! Bill's been a great student with tons of enthusiasm and desire to learn the sport that takes you to so many wonderful places. Bill Fisher and Trout opener: Imagine your learning to fly fish and the nymphing has been great using size 14 beaded Bird's Nest, then all of the sudden about 1pm a PMD May Fly Hatch comes out and trout are rising heavy on the otherside of the current. I put on a light Cahil and Bill casts up into this little pocket you see in the picture next to the rock and BLAMMM the trout is on! Nice job Bill your my SIZZLER OF THE WEEK! Shasta Trout opening day 2003: Shasta Trout looking on, happy that another season has started on the McCloud River. Does it get any better than this! Bill Fisher and Trout: Nice trout Bill!! He caught 5 like this on dry flys and 4 others on nymphs, the opening was awesome and unlike other years provided excellent dry fly fishing early in the season. Keep your eyes out in big pools with foam lines, the fish are looking up my friends! Pit River 04 25 03: Here's the Pit River on April 25th, 2003 from a high road. This is before the storm hit on Sunday. The opener on the Pit was equally as good as the Mccloud and many fish were caught on nymphs. Pit River 04 25 03 before opening day: Looks good to me!! As soon as the rain stops the Pit River will be in great shape. I would call before heading out due to recent storms, call me if you'd like!! Henderson Springs Jonathon and Tory: Jonathon and my guide Tory Shannon caught this whale at Henderson Springs this past week! This beauty weighed in at 10lbs plus and a wopping 29 inches!!! This was his first time ever fly fishing, I said to him it's all down from here friend! Lower Sac Wendy Jeffe: On the Lower Sac this past week Wendy Jeffe landed this chunky monkey on a swimming PT size 14. The trout fishing was excellent before the flows got raised to 20,000 CFS on the Lower Sac. Lower Sac Dan's Fish: Wendy's friend Dan caught this lovely Rainbow and landed it a 1/4 mile down stream from where he hooked it. These fish are so hard fighting if you get 1/2 in your lucky! Lower Sac release: So we release you now to back to your day and the things that you must get done. I hope you enjoyed our opening day festivities and the fishing leading up to opening day. This my friends is gonna be a great year with plenty of water all season! **STAY TUNED AS I REPORT ON MORE RIVERS, FISHING AND VIEWS UNTIL THEN ENJOY YOUR WEATHER! JACK TROUT
