Petrohue Park in the middle of Chile is one of most beautiful places I`ve ever seen. My customer Daniel Sedergren from Colorado finally arrived and we drove to this glorious place to check out these truly unique falls. Before Daniel caught many McCloud River Rainbows on Royal Wuff dry flies and we both felt good about the start of what has been a truly successful trip.

This is Daniel and my girlfriend Ana Maria at Pertrohue Park with the volcano Orsorno in the background. Daniel is one of the most easiest going people you could be with and has been a delight to spend time with here in region 10 of Chile, labled as the lake district.

The falls are born out of Lago Todos Los Santos and make their way down the glacier fed river, the colors are similar to the McCloud River and it becomes a very large river down stream in doing so. We plan to float this river this week and I¥m very excited for the prospects for catching more trout on one of Chile`s most beautiful destinations.

Across the river many trees lined the edges of the river, these are mainly native Nires and Coihues. The sun seemed perfect for this pic and we enjoyed seeing a spot in the river where many trout were rising, the only problem we had is, you can`t fish in the park. So we planned to return and float the Rio Petrohue in future days.

The first day we headed to this wonderful lake near Argentina the volcano in the background is actually located in Argentina and it`s called Lanin. When we started fishing this shallow shored lake, we discovered that the fish were in very close to the shore. It was like bone fishing for trout, where you could see them eating dragon fly nymphs, damsils and midges subsurface. before long Daniel had caught his fair share of healthy hard fighting McCloud Rainbows and his first comment was my week is made I don¥t have to catch another trout the rest of the week! Of course my guide Eduardo and I knew better and he continued to hook up until we took a break to feast on a wonderful lunch prepared by Ceasar and Eduardo.

Daniel was casting to fish he could see laying in the sand and on the edges of the lake algae. Eduardo and I were watching him cast when Eduardo tapped me on the shoulder and pointed directly behind us, It was about a 4lb trout that has snuck up behind us very close to shore. Daniel began trying to cast to this trout but the trout must of had an education at the University of Temuco Chile cause he just wasn`t going for it, it was still great to see this once in a lifetime occurance.

Many trout of this size were seen and caught, and as always a few got away. Daniel enjoyed his day and after a while the bite turned off and we headed for the river. I looked for Condors in the hills but didn`t see any, that was O.K. though, Daniel was happy and that¥s all that counted. We release all the trout we catch in Chile, it`s good way to assure the future generations to come, besides we could come next year and He'll be even bigger!

We headed to the river that comes out of the lake and once again saw trout everywhere. Some were rising, but we seemed to do better nymphing as they tend to rise more frequently in the evening. Daniel said this was one of the most beautiful spring creeks he has ever seen.

Daniel brought down several rods but one of his favorites was this bamboo rod that felt the fight as well as the sounds of a screaming Hardy reel. If you look close at the picture you can see other trout lying in the weeds and on the edges. For a 40 year fly fishermen or just about anybody this was exciting!**IT DOESN`T GET ANY BETTER SEE YOU NEXT TIME AS WE CONTINUE OUR JOURNEY HERE IN THE 9TH REGION OF CHILE** TAKE CARE FOLKS JACK TROUT
