Wednesday 8th, 2002**WE'RE BACK IN FULL FORCE!** McCloud River David 2002: The 2002 opener will be remembered as one of the best ever! The clouds were out, the rain was present, but did this stop David from catching trout and enjoying the day, NO WAY! All 4 days on the McCloud River led us to numerous trout caught on Parachute Adams, as well as many landed on the Stimulator/ dropper rigs. It's great to be back on the McCloud River for the new 2002 season, and I think Spring is your best bet for awesome fishing up in the Mt. Shasta area. Shasta's Rock on the McCloud River: What a view Shasta has from this tall Serpentine Rock. These rocks line the McCloud River and can make you slip a lot with it's smooth texture and un-even sides. They actually crush this rock to make asbestos fibers for many things. It always amazes me that something like asbestos, being dangerous and all, comes from such a natured filled place. Shasta doesn't care, she just wants to watch us catch more trout. Squaw Valley Creek JF: One of the days John and I decided to fish Squaw Valley Creek. All day we caught these "Spunky Monkeys" on a Stimulator/dropper rigs. I found that Pheasant Tail Nymphs size 14 worked the best for the opener. John enjoyed his first experience on Squaw Valley Creek and toasted the occasion with a lovely cigar from another country. Way to go John, you're my SIZZLER OF THE WEEK! Wild Azelea: Wild Azalea growing along the edges of Squaw Valley Creek fills the air with natures most wonderful fragrance. This flower will only be blooming for a few weeks so get out and find them, it's a worth while journey. Most blooms are occuring right now below 3500 foot level and are prevalent on the Upper Sac and McCloud Rivers. MRC RICHIES LUNKER 2002: One of the four days I got an opportunity to guide Richie, the one shown here in the picture with a awesome McCloud River Rainbow. He just started fly fishing and it didn't take long for him to catch a 17"er and this 20"er. It looks like the trout is trying to say something? I can hear him, "get me the heck back in the river!" No problem, released unharmed! Great day Richie.... MRC RICHIE 2002: What did Richie think of all of this? Looks pretty happy to me. See you next time Richie, until then keep practicing your casting stroke. **WELL FOLKS, HOPE YOU ENJOYED THE OPENER AS MUCH AS I DID, STAY TUNED AS I WILL UPDATE IN THREE DAYS WITH PICS FROM MY RAFTING ADVENTURES ON THE UPPER SACRAMENTO RIVER! MANY RIVERS TO YOU, JACK TROUT**
