"This Redbud's for you!" This native shrub blooms this brilliant violet flower that only exists for a few weeks every Spring. As you drive up Interstate 5 starting in the low elevations first, like right out of Redding, around Mountain Gate you'll start to see them along the hiway as you drive up towards Mt Shasta. It's really one of the most scenic times to see these and others, like the Dog Woods that highlight themselves in white. Next to come is the scent flowers that start to appear, to fill the forest with fragrance and aromas that re-welcome us to Spring up here in the Mt Shasta area.
This Bridge was built by the California Conservation Corp. in 1933
It was their first project in our area of this sort. Now this bridge provides access to the river and Simms Campground, a wonderful place to camp when visting the Mt Shasta area. Just be ready for the train that arrives between 4 and 5am every morning. You'll get use to it after a while, it all sounds like ocean waves. This really is a special place !
I took this picture off the CCC Bridge of the Upper Sacramento River. Kinda high for wading, but at a perfect level to raft and fish out of the boat. I get really excited every time I think about rafting the Upper Sac this season. I think it's one of my all time favorite things to do, Raft and Fish!!!
Shasta and I had a 1/2 day before a 1/2 Scenic Tour so we decided to
head out to the Klamath River to see what was up. The flows were lowered and I thought since the weather was warmer that day the prospects for success could be fruitful. Shasta Trout loyal guide dog was more than ready sitting up front ready for action!
Mr. Steelhead meet Shasta Trout, Shasta looks pretty fired up about the catch, yet she remains a professional guide dog. Not allowing her mutt like instincts to lash out and bite that head off! I think she really is in awe of trout, especially the big ones! She never gets in the way!! great guide dog Shasta Trout!!!!! 181 guide trips in 2001, I wonder if any dog did more???
Nice 3lb Cromer gave me a great fight on the Klamath River last Saturday. Yea, Shasta and I had a grand ol' time together, floating the Klamath, thinking about life, and always checking out nature!
Catching a few Steelies and basically grateful for another day out on the river with my dog, Shasta's still sitting up in the front seat and couldn't be happier! **HEY EVERYONE THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL THE EMAILS, I RETURN EVERYONE! HOPE YOU LIKED THE STORY, SEE YOU NEXT ADVENTURE, NEXT WEEK!**
