Tuesday, March 19th, 2002 **SPRING TOURS HAVE BEGUN!** Box Canyon the head of the Upper Sac River: I took my dog Shasta for a walk near Box Canyon, the head of the Upper Sacramento River. There's a great trail that runs about a mile in length, along this trail are views of the Upper Sac and scenes like out a movie, the beauty is incredible. Waterfalls can be seen at a distance and there's even nesting Bald Eagles as well as Osprey, that cruise the skies as you walk along and enjoy the fruits of labor of the Siskiyou Trail Association, the ones who built the trail. Yea, what a great place to take your dog for a walk, Shasta agrees! Bald eagle Box canyon: As a shadow drew over my line of sight, I looked up only to witness one of my favorite outdoor creatures, the Bald Eagle! It's always exciting for me to see one, ever since I was a kid, I've always loved Bald Eagles. Maybe it's the symbol in which they represent, freedom, a bird that defies gravity by size, yet soars in a natural elegance of strength. The wing span usually around 8 to 10 feet at maturity, this bird diffently represents our nation well. Did you know Ben Franklin wanted to make the Turkey our national bird? I'm glad it didn't come about, I don't think I could bring myself to eating Bald Eagle in November. Jt Fifth Season, Mt Shasta: This is the Fifth Season in Mt Shasta. This is a great store to buy mountaineering items for climbing, hiking or skiing on or around the Mt Shasta area. They also sell awesome clothing for all seasons, as well as great boots, jackets, sunglasses and the latest in any outdoor item on the planet. Leif at the Fifth Season, Mt Shasta: Here's Leif, the owner of the Fifth Season in Mt Shasta, standing in front of the climbing gear and sunglasses case. He's been operating for years and is proud to say they also rent bikes and skis for any of you that come up this way. Mounting Skis Fifth Season, Mt Shasta: They'll even tune your ski's and mount them correctly for you. This is a great Mt Shasta store you all should visit when staying in the Mt Shasta area. MT Shasta Fountain: We have our own water fountain in our town. See Mt Shasta, ( the mountain) has many lava tubes running underground, in fact our water system has no holding tanks or treatments of any kind. It's truly pure water, that never sees the light of day til it reaches the outside of your faucet! It's the greatest water on earth, We go to springs on my tours and drink it directly from the source. Hope to do that sometime with you! jack trout Well folks thats this story, stay tuned as I head out on another adventure tomorrow, until then Jack Trout Over and Out!!!!
