Up high in the Eddies one day, I discovered this blue larkspur flower on the edge of this no named pond. This pond will be dried up by the end of August, and so will this flower. In fact, on a drive up there yesterday to see where the wild flowers are in their growing stages, I found that there were no more of the flowers we previewed in the last
story. Only the tiger lilies were still out in force, the yellow lupin flowers were all dried up, as well as the bear grass. I did notice the flowers had wilted and they were now dropping their seeds for next season.

Afternoons out on the McCloud are productive right now with trout rising frequently to size 18 and 16 Light Cahil and Adams. Richard from Reno Nevada, enjoyed his day out with me which consisted of fishing the Upper Sac in the morning and the McCloud in the afternoon, til almost dark.

Rich had so much fun with his buddy J.B. that he plans to return in the Fall! Another happy camper!! JT

Earlier that day, J.B. hooked into some small fish on the Upper Sac, but J.B. didn’t really care about size, he came to learn more about nymphing. Learn he did, he caught over
10 trout nymphing that day, and thanked me later for helping him jump the nymphing hurdle.

What a day I had with my brother Tim, and my nephew Andy on the Trinity River last week! Tim hooked into lots of 1/2 lbers, and the weather couldn’t have been better.

Tim and Andy sure had fun catching oodles of these hard fighting 1/2 lbers out of my raft. It was great to spend time with my broham and nepham and look forward to seeing them up in my green pastures again.

Isn’t the Trinity beautiful! We are so lucky to have as many places to fish as we do living here in the north state!
I do need to let you know, those foks that are regular customers of ours, need to book your fall dates now, before all the best dates are taken like last year! Thanks Jack Trout and guides.

And when things got too hot, Andy and Tim jumped in for a refreshing swim. This water, originating from the trinity alps way up high, was so crystal clear. Did you know, that the Trinity River also starts its flows from the west side of the Eddy Mountains, and runs quite a distance to meet up with tribs that eventually flow into the water you see my family swimming in?! Have you ever seen the Hearst Castle on the Mccloud River? Here’s a post card from the early 1900’s that shows the not so famous Wytoon Estate. Julia Morgan, the first women licensed architect, designed and architectured this 20th Century masterpiece as well as the famed San Simeon castle down on the central coast of California. The Wyntoon Estate located on the Upper Mccloud River is not open for tours to the public,
but many photos and stories can be witnessed at the Heritage Museum in McCloud… (no pictures please!) My mother once told me about a party she attended out there in the 1950’s when Vanner Bickle resided there….

Did you know that Babe Ruth use to visit us in Dunsmuir? That’s right, Babe’s first visit was in 1924. He was touring with an exhibition team that toured most of California. Reva Coon, is a local Dunsmuirian (not to be confused with the Lem
urians) she was married to the infamous Bones Coon, who was chosen to play on Babe’s Dunsmuir team in 1926, the second time he visited. Babe Ruth loved Dunsmuir and visited here as many as 3 times after that. When asked, Reva said, “Babe hit many home runs out of Dunsmuir park.”in fact, one of the balls he hit was hit so far, it was thought to be hit over the river onto the hill and was never recovered”…. I guess I’m glad Boston screwed up and traded the Babe, he might of never made it to Dunsmuir. Neva, also said that Babe signed several baseballs that have never turned up? Does anyone know or have any of those signed balls from the Babe? They’re
probably priceless. Reva Coon, celebrated her 100 birthday this past week!!! Way to go Reva, YOU’RE MY SIZZLER OF THE WEEK! CONGRATULATIONS REVA!! Its got to be that great Dunsmuir water!! JT
