Things are really starting to shape up for this upcoming stream opener on April 24th. The mountain has recieved 251"s of snow fall or approximately 10' of snow pack at mid level elevations. I found this out through the Mt Shasta Avalanche Center located at www.shastaavalanche.com It's a wonderful site with great pics and valuable information. Headed by Matt Hill and Eric White, they do a great job of keeping everyone informed regarding all conditions for any kind of sport that exists on Mt Shasta. Thanks guys great job! jt

This story begins after the customers had left for home. It was day for Team Trout to get out and do a little fishing. Mike, Chuck and I met up and before long I was hooked up in the back of the boat with a torpedo that wasn't gonna give up that easy. Mike exclaimed, "I saw that fish when you first hooked it, it's HUGE!!"

This was truly the biggest Steelhead I've ever seen in the Upper portion of the Klamath River. Estimated at 12 lbs, and 32 inches in length my guides agreed this was the biggest they had seen too! This fish made my year, it was all jolly rancher form then on!! Here's some more pics of Big Bert...
I've caught several fish in the 5 to 7 lb range but rarely will I ever see a Steelhead of this size in the Klamath River. I didn't care if I didn't catch another fish all day! Big Bert, broke through the mesh in my nice, not so nice anymore net! But he was released unharmed to spawn and make more Big Berts. How cool was that!!! JT

Without warning Big Bert took a big leap on me as though to leave his mark and he was off to the races again. Big Bert you'da Man! What an absolute memorable experience on the Klamath River.

Mike landed a nice one too! All in all, we did pretty good, but just being out on the Klamath in gorgeous weather was good enough for me!

At the Sportsman Show we met a gentlemen by the name of Garrett Boutin, he soon contacted us right after the show to take us up on our offer to show him a good time. Mike took him the first day and I followed up on the second.

Mike got Garrett into this healthy cromer and the smile says it all! Garrett has fly fished all over the world and has actually fish more out of the country than he has right here in his own backyard. As we parted the second day he took a Jack Trout Hat and mentioned how he plans to spend more time here in Northern Cal. I didn't tell him but I gave him the hat cause Garret Boutin, YOU'RE SIZZLER OF THE WEEK!! CONGRATULATIONS SIZZLER!

This is like a back seat driver asleep at the wheel!

It was good to guide my old friend Griff, I really liked the colors on this fish, let me show you from another angle of light, this steelhead is cool! jt

Thats what makes fishing fun, you never know what you might get, so get out and get amongst them. Take care Griff have a great fly fishing year!*NEXT REPORT FROM CHILE, I'M SO EXCITED TO SEE ALL MY FRIENDS AND GUIDES IN CHILE, WATCH MY UPDATES WEEKLY AS I GO IN SEARCH OF NEW RIVERS AND NEW ADVENTURES IN FLY FISHING'S FINAL FRONTIER CHI-CHI-CHI-LE-LE VIVA CHILE!!!
