Monday,March 4th, 2002 **VINA DEL MAR, COAST OF CHILE**
another beach!:
Me and about 20,000 people had the same idea to head out to the beach on Sunday. Everywhere you go from Valpraiso through Vina and up to ReÒaca you can see hundreds of folks enjoying the summer rays! This beach also has great fish platters, like Congrio Eel, (my favorite), Merluza (Chilean Sea Bass), Covina etc. Deep fried to perfection. Top it off with a tall glass of Crystal cervaza (beer) and you got yourself a classic lunch, with free views. The cost? about $4.75 U.S. it's cheap eating here Sizzlers!
The floral clock in ViÒa:
This was the only time I looked at a clock on this whole trip! This is called the "Reloj de Flores", the clock of flowers. Located in Vina Del Mar what a great scene, and the horse driven carriages located all over the city is a great way to see the citites highlights! Theres always vendors selling things on most every street corner as well as great markets to buy nick nacks, for the one that couldn't make the trip.
¥Bugaloos Cafe, Valpraiso Ave:
Every morning I go to this place on Valpraiso Avenue, Bugaloo's Cafe, to get a cortado ( Chilean Latte) You know what my saying is, "if I didn't get the shakes for a little caffeine in the morning, I wouldn't get any excercise"! These girls are great all smiles and great coffee's to start my day off right, you should try their hot chocolate, with a hefty dose of real whipped cream on top, it looks like their trying to build Mt. Shasta.
Hold on your on a bus!:
I had my coffee and decided to head out for Valpraiso, I could rent a car here no problem, but going by bus up and down the coast cost about .50cents and I'm telling you it's an adveture! The drivers must get paid for how many routes they make in a day, cause they drive like it, and the winding narrow streets, match with the "Streets of San Francisco" make this journey far more better than any roller coaster ride. It's halarious, the drivers are always honking at each other, getting past each other by the narrowest of margins. Look near the window, what do you see Sizzlers, an American flag and a Chilean flag side by side! Thats right, there our allies and as long as we don't take it for granted they will always be there for us and likewise. Act like the "Ugly American", and they will just shake their heads and think what an ass. I love this country deeply and have been coming here now for 8 years, "It's your world boss", " Es su mundo jefe". Jack Trout
Llama and little girl:
I stopped off in central Valpraiso to see some more classic views of the city. I was taken up in a tram to the top of this hill called "Paseo 21 Mayo". There was all kinds of vendors selling things like blankets, ponchos, ice creams, post cards etc. I saw this llama and this cute little girl and asked her Mother if I could take her photo, of course she said! And afterwards the family couldn¥t thank me enough times. They even had the little girl thank me five more times and they saw me off back down the tram. The little girl waved at me one more last time as the doors closed to the tram, I was glad that I had given them the email address to look it up today. °Gracias Nina!
Cruise liner:
Valpraiso is a main port harbor city for all of Chile, containers as well as goods for the entire country are shipped into here. (Valpraiso is also Chile's central access for internet, internet is everywhere, so are these delicious internet cafe¥s where I do my updates from. It's cheap to long on, for hour costs .35 cents.) Tomorrow will be my last day of up dates from Vina Del Mar, I will be bringing you more shots from the beach at ReÒaca! So look for it and keep the emails up! Until then it's Jack Trout over and out, for the beach that makes you smile, from California¥s sister country Chile, long on, it's worth while! Take care folks, JT
