January 22nd, 2002 *PATAGONIAN ANDES!* Emperior Guillermo: This is a glacier mountain called Emperior Guillermo, He is riding his horse over the Andes mountains and you can see his crown he wears. It¥s amazing to view this up close, Theres so many mountains and high peaks that show a face or tell a story here in the Patagonia. The weather is changing and it was a high of 57 yesterday. The weather can change dramatically, I always say when you come to the Patagonia dress for the four seasons. This day though, the weather was hot and absolutely perfect. We headed for a hopper river to try our luck on big time brown trout. JT Mark Buell at a Hopper River in Chile: Here¥s Mark Buell a total beginner to the sport, I fished with him at Bollibokka Club on the McCloud River in October. He had so much fun he decided to join me in Chile this year. I think he¥s glad he did he caught 29 brown trout, all on grass hopper imitations! In fact on this very spot we viewed a trout jump up out of the water and pluck a hopper from the tall grass. Really no fish story, it¥s quite common on this river to see it, the trout only have about 4 months to get all their food for the year, then comes the Patagonian winter high water and temps as low as 40 below zero. these trout are loco for hoppers and will do anything to feast their lips on them, a normal day of fishing is 50. Mark enjoyed his day emensely and I know he will return next year maybe with someone famous, stay tuned to see who it is..... On the way back to the car we saw a condor flying low above our head, I mean low like 50 feet. I couldn¥t get my camera in position fast enought to get you the picture, but what a site to see! Mark Buell and his catch!: Heres Mark with one of his 29 Brown Trout¥. Like the McCloud River Rainbow, all the Brown Trout in Chile were either brouht in from Scotland or Germany, amazing isn¥t it! Mark is a great student and very quick to learn this graceful sport. The Valley of the Moon!: This is called the Valley of the Moon. This is right on the border of Argentina, in fact the mountains out there in the distance is Argentina. It always amazes me how diverse the terrain can be and were only 30 air miles from the lush greenry of Coyhaique. Peregrine Falcon: I didn¥t get th pic of the Condor but got this great shot of this Peregrine Falcon and a blue sky! It reminds me of this great new song by Nelly Furtado, I¥m like a bird. Hey Sizzlers thanks for all the great emails, keep it up and let me know what you think and what you¥d like me to report on. Until then Jack Trout over and out! La Casona Restaurant:
