November 22nd, 2001 *HAPPY THANKSGIVING
SPECIAL REPORT KLAMATH RIVER
Great sunsets like this are not uncommon in our little neck of the woods. This is a shot taken towards the Eddie Mountains, on the west side of interstate 5. I hope all of you are enjoying some time off with family and loveones on this glorious Thanksgiving Day!
We all have alot to be thankful for and many thoughts and prays go out to all of those who were deeply affected or who might have lost someone in the World Trade Center. We are a great country and we have pulled together like never before. God Bless all the troops
defending our values, may this picture above be my gift to you
that I appreciate your efforts! "AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL"
I got a chance to guide for two days down between Seiad and Happy Camp on the Klamath River. The first day I floated through Seiad
and even though the fishing was on the slow side we still managed to a hook a few 1/2lbers. Chuck seen here is a member of the San Jose Fly casters and came up to try his luck for the annual run of steelies. I thought the scenery was divine, I really enjoyed seeing all the Live Oaks and Madrone Trees that line the river in their, "just in time newly arrived Fall colors"!
When you float down the Klamath theres a huge advantage to catching trout and steelhead cause the boat cruises at the same speed as the current, thus allowing your indicator to float at that same speed also. This makes the nymphs we fish very enticing to our fine scaled friends and they hit the fly very swift & quick. It's up to you from there, I laugh alot! You know the routine, "advice from the guide abuse from the fish". ( haha!!!) The next day I floated through Happy Camp with Layne and Bob.
Layne seen here also a member of the San Jose Fly Casters was a real character to guide. I thought to myself , now heres's a guy that has more enthusiasm for life than me. All day he was clamoring
and jumping up and down about how happy he was to be out there!
That's alright by me I never did care for the "been there done it type" anyway. Layne your cool, and so is this cromer steelie,
your my "SIZZLER OF THE WEEK!" congradulations with honors.
I really don't want to start any rumors out there, but I thought you'd get a kick out this Pic. There goes my political career, "Layne it's just a Steelhead don't get so excited". I'm sure glad all my customers don't get this excited, and by the way that beard was gross!!!! Next time he can take his own fish off. I know it's Happy Camp but I think your getting a little carried away with moment!
Bob was on this trip also and is seen here fishing the convergence
of the divided streams. I find that these are definite places that both trout and steelhead like to feed in and more times than not are holding right in the slack water between the two meeting currents. Sure enough on this day it held true to form that many
trout and steelhead were in these slots and both Bob and Layne
caught fish all day long!
Nice Klamath River Trout Bob! Hey everyone more Klamath River Stories coming up in the next few days stay tuned I have some unbelieveable pics coming up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jack Trout
