January 18th, 2002 *****PATAGONIA CHILE SIZZLERS*****
This is the lodge where my customers stay when they visit me in Chile. It¥s a wonderful place with great food like abalone, crab, spring lamb and many other dishes to live for. We fish right out in front of the lodge, or 6 different rivers within an hours drive.
The Patagonia is very unique because in a 50 mile area, there are all the climates that would be similar from driving from Montana to Washington. The views are incredible and theres always something to do or somewhere to fish. Our lodge is quite comfortable and the staff are unsurpass.We even offer tours up the coast complimented
by trips to the local market in Coyhaique.
Here¥s a typical scene driving out around the Patagonia. Many people think Patagonia is a district or county of Argentina or Chile. It really is the region where the prehistoric indians called the Maipo Patagonian Indians lived. It also bares the name of the area where the Chileans grow their wine, Maipo Valley. Boy can they make some great wine down here.
I decided to head out to do some fishing on my own the day before my first clients arrive. Where will I go so many places to choose from I decide to head to a small Spring Creek that is plum full of Brown Trout and all you use is grass hopper imitations on the surface. I caught 24 trout in three hours of fishing, ranging from 12″s to 17¥”s. They all have red colored tails, and get this no one
around for miles!
I headed back into Coyhaique and went swimming with my Patagonian Family the Ramos¥s. We ran into some kyakers that were floating down to the lodge. I want to do the kyaking as soon as I get some free time maybe in late March, it looks fun. It was very hot today
like 87 degrees. Theres no ozone layer down here so the sun is intense and it¥s a must to wear sun screne lotion.
This is the Franzia Family kicking back at the lodge doing absolutely what ever thay feel. You know these people, there the ones that make the great wine, and for now there smelling the roses.
