Welcome to the premiere newsletter of the Protect Our Waters Coalition. The Protect Our Waters Coalition formed to ensure the ecological and hydrological integrity of Mount Shasta's unique headwater areas for future generations.

We're delighted to introduce our website, blog, monthly newsletter, and share breaking news from the McCloud Watershed Council the release of an independent economic report analyzing the costs and benefits of the proposed Nestlé water-bottling project in McCloud.

WEBSITE www.protectourwaters.org Our vision for the Protect Our Waters website is to share information about our most precious resource. We will showcase what we know, and what we need to know. Together we can work to gather the science and to develop policy based on science to make sure all county interests are protected.

BLOG www.protectourwaters.org/blog The Blog section of the website will serve as a water debate platform. The goal is to create community dialogue about our waters that brings people together. Water issues tend to be controversial, even taboo, subjects in the West. In opening dialogue about contentious issues, it is our hope that water issues will be a catalyst for bringing people together, rather than wrenching them apart. Currently the most divisive water issue in southern Siskiyou County is the proposed Nestle water bottling plant for McCloud thus the topic of our first blog.

NEWSLETTER The Protect Our Waters newsletter will highlight Mount Shasta's three watersheds and build readers knowledge base through slide shows, scientific reports and data, including Mount Shasta springs data overlaid on Google Earth, and current information on upcoming water and watershed related meetings and events.

Breaking News McCloud Ca A new report that analyzes the long-term economic impact of the proposed Nestlé water bottling plant in McCloud, CA shows the price for water under the current contractual agreement between Nestlé and the McCloud Community Services District is far below market value and that the new plant is unlikely to create a significant net gain of long-term, permanent jobs for McCloud residents. The report was prepared on behalf of the McCloud Watershed Council by Eugene, Oregon-based ECONorthwest, an independent firm with 30 years experience specializing in economic and financial analysis of public policy.

I just got through looking over your updated Trinity Blog. I don't how it reached me, but I am glad it did. I loved all those pictures. I thought about stealing the one in which you are wearing the red shirt, but you are just too ----- (just kidding)

I think it is a great way to attract clients and keep old ones. Good Luck with it and with the coming season. If things continue as they have it looks like we all will be in each other faces on a couple of rivers. Hopefully we will all get along, although I know it will be tough at times.

Can you advise where we are going to meet, and when?

Also, do you have waders and boots for Kevin and myself that we can rent/use? At this point we still have not gotten around to buying any, although we certainly should.

Remember that we are looking for fly - fishing that is a bit more technical challenging than just dropping a fly over the side of a raft. Preferably something involving out of the raft and requiring casting to the fish (although we are probably not going to hit 80 foot casts).

My nephew Caleb took a long string of photos, but unfortunately none of the fish. He did his best, but the fish was shy and did not cooperate. I did get a good picture of him with a nice steelie. I have attached two pictures, one of Caleb with his fish, and one of me and my buddy Paul when we had about 200' of line out on the big boy.

Thanks for a great time. I want to fish the Klamath in January, got any dates open? It would probably be a Sunday or Monday.

I do have more pictures of the various stages of the fight with the big boy if you would like them. I have nice images has we drift through the white water with the fish on. The file is huge, but if you send me a snail mail address, I could send you a CD.

How the hell is it going?

Ken DelMonte sent me the article that was in the SF Chronicle on November 18th. Now that you are royalty and guide for newspaper columnists and authors can we still fish with you? Were not worthy, were not worthyΣ but please say it isn‚t so.

All kidding aside, it was a great article and I hope it brings you a ton of business. If anyone deserves it, it‚s you Jack.

So, when does the steelhead fishing end on the Trinity River? If I can get Ken off his big butt (don‚t tell him I said that) I would like to venture up there. I would imagine that it will start getting real cold soon.
