Henry Hossfeld and his daughter Lucia are here now! Henry caught 2 brown trout up to 6lbs and many others on the Rio Maullin, and Lucia caught 7 rainbows up 7lbs on the Rio Petrohue her first day fly fishing, stay tuned for their 13 day adventure next in a two part series that includes Rio Yelcho & Rio Futaleufu! I'm so excited about all this great fishing and happy customers, that I got up at 5 am to bring it to you, The Sizzlers! I don't really have any other time to work on the weblog, since I'm out on the rivers everyday with customers, Francisco (Poncho), and Nico, getting done at 9pm. Eating dinner at 10:30 pm with the customers and finishing at mid-night (if we're taking it easy) everyday they are here, then back up at 6am or 7am. It's funny in a way, because I could never exist like this back home, I'm in bed before 10:30pm. But it's the culture here and the 14 seasons of knowing if you want to be the best outfitter in the Patagonia, you have to make sacrafices, and sleep is one of them. Going to any extent to make the trip the best for any customer who visits us is an unconditional must! The funny thing is, once you throw your watch away and dive into the magic of the hour, then look into the customers eyes and gaze into their wildest dreams that are coming true like a Walt Disney tale, the sleep thing becomes a low priorty. You don't want to miss a second of it, it's so surreal here and no matter how tired you get the clock is ticking and you always find that second wind. Besides, my audience is waiting for the next story, so you cowboy-up, and live the wet dream that is only a double haul away! I'm always dedicated to bringing you the stories and tales of my life and what it's like to be an outfitter/fly fishing guide in the 21st century. I hope anyone watching this now and in the future will realize what tremedous natural resources Chile, California, and the world has right now and continues to protect it. I'm not hugging trees or trying to save the world Sizzlers, just document it, so our great-grand kids some day can catch the same grand illusions that I witness daily, cause deep inside we're all the same. Thank you so much for all your support and emails, I never thought that I'd be where I am, I keep pushing on! This beautiful Photo is called the Ventisquero Glacier, right above Lago Yelcho, the dragon fly lake.

Blake Larsen and Clay Hash arrived and the next day we jumped into the trout mobile and headed for Argentina, it was a perfect sunny day in Chile, and in Argentina and we stopped for a photo outside of the town of Villa de Augostura, Argentina possible one of Argentina's richest real estate areas. Clay had his binoculars and we could see huge trout cruising by the surface, this wetted our lips and patted our thoughts, as we knew the upcoming journey would be one to remember the rest of our lives...

Back Puerto Varas the first day, we stopped in the plaza to show Clay and Blake the scenery and ran into a couple of girls I know from eating at Alassandro's Restaurant. Valerie and Karin (From Argentina) were more than happy to pose with Blake in this classic boy meets babes then goes fly fishing photo.

We arrived in Futaleufu and as Clay and Blake got their waders on, I got a horse back ride from my friend Franklin, a local huaso who has lived in Futaleufu Valley for over 45 years. He is famous in Futaleufu for his Asados, and we are using his services weekly so that our customers can live large within the culture and not always be confined to a lodge atmosphere that is comfortable but lacks true Patagonian freedom. Our one and two week trips are about Fly Fishing, Culture and Food. Hanging out with Franklin and his family compliments our customers trips as well as their appetites! So I salute Franklin and his family, and raise my glass high as we walked in fields of gold.

We launched the cataraft on the Upper Futaleufu and Clay hooked 6 trout within minutes including this mary poppins! I was happy to see Clay with a big smile on his face since I had guided him for the first time so many years ago.

I love the browns down here in Chile, they can be so pretty. When they have pointed noses like this one did, I call them hydro-dynamic!

We stopped off on this side channel and changed the bugs, what a scene.

Down at the bottom the trout were just under the surface looking for food to come passing by. We put on a size 20 Compara-Dun and ziggy stardust became to fly!

I let Clay use my 3wt Winston boron rod and the trout bent that tooth pick like a bungy cord on viagra. I shot this photo on the initial take and Clay Hash's trout was smoking!

Dry flies are not under rated Sizzlers, especailly on a 3 wt! In my family, you get to add 3 inches to any fish caught on a dry fly! As hard as this fish fought he didn't need any help. My favorite fly rods are Winston Rods, my favorite reels are made by Ross.

On the way down you can see this beautiful waterfall that comes down from the high mountain glaciers that served us in a 360 degree panoramic ambrosha. We finished are float on the Futaleufu and headed to float the Lower Futaleufu below the class 4 and 5 rapids that are famous amoung the elite rafters in the world.

We launched our two boats, (one drift boat-one cataraft) for we believe that in Patagonia the ratio should be one guide to one angler and have maintained this policy all season! It has paid big dividends for our customers that have had quality catches like this brown that went over 6 lbs and is my choice this year for the Miss Universe contest.

Then Blake caught this 7lb rainbow trout with Marty Feldman eyes! look at the water color it's so devine. Salutes to the Sky Pilot when he colored this mountain stream.

Blake was really on a roll that day as he became one with the stream with Nico at the oars!

I looked out across the river today!......... All this time the river flowed endlessly to the sea, if I had my way, take a boat down the river, and go crazy in contributions watch the world get better one by one. (Sting 1980's) Classic river guide song everytime I hear it! Thanks Sting, youda man!(Rio Azul)

We stopped to show our customers the rapids on the Futaleufu that are so famous with rafters amoung the world. This is called Stone House, what a ride this would be! No fishing please!
Class 4 Rio Futaleufu Stone House, I took this picture for Matt Hill in Mt Shasta my rafting partner for rafting fly fishing trips on the Upper Sac, April 1st through June 25th annually please make your reservations as soon as possible as dates are filling up. hey Matt What a section of river!!

As we passed by we saw this beautiful ventisquero up close, you can walk right up on this one. stay tuned as I trek with Greta Mitchell, in a later date in the middle of March, as we take a tour here really up close! Many times over on the Rio Yelcho you can hear the glaciers cracking and moaning their way to freedom, it's an ominous sound that lets you know who really is boss.

as we arrived the next day at Lago Yelcho, Francisco was there to greet us and show Clay and I the ropes, while I photographed catches, and Nico rowed Blake into the paradise isle.

The fish rose near the reeds and under structure trees that grew around the lakes edges. We used Dragon Fly patterns and Chernoble Ants and fly fished for these jurassic trout!

under structure like this big trout lurk up to 12lbs or more!

Before long Clay had on a whopper that bend his rod over and out!

When the trout got near I yelled, SHARK!!!! And told everyone to watch their hands.

If you go to South America to fly fish, isn't this what you expect! I know it's western style of fishing and the better you are the better you do, but what a truly classic day for Clay. Catching big trout on dragon fly dries!!! Wow!

Nico and Blake hooked into a large brook trout that only exist here in the 10th region of Chile.

Clay, on the Rio yelcho hooking trout after trout on dry flies!

We like doing bbq's on the sides of the rivers here in Patagonia. On this day we cooked up a giant sausage and a filet steak. Clay and Blake loved it cause it's hard these days to do this at home with all the restrictions and idiots out there that get careless with fires.

This is where we stayed when were in the area and the customers loved it! Not everyone wants a sterile lodge enviroment, we aim to please let us plan your 2007 adventures in Chile. We know the best places to go with the quality trout experiences. Don't let anyone tell you the fishing in Argentina is better, it's just not true. It comes down to the guides, the flies we select and the time of year you visit here. If you want to fly fish with the Jone's go to Argentina and fish high desert scenes with crowds in a lodge. It cost me more to operate in Chile with little or no profit because I over see your trips, but in the end it's worth it all for the happy customers who bring more people the following year and stay longer! Depending on what kind of fishing you like there's every kind of fly fishing available on rivers or lakes that can be found in the Sky Pilot's country of Chile. Jack Trout

Please release me... let me go!

One day Clay and Blake told the guides that they were so happy with their trip that they wanted us to fly fish a 1/2 day and they would row. This was a rare event and I caught this steelhead on a dry fly and acted like a customer for a while.

A little ways down stream from there I hooked into this lovely 8lb brown with tail that legends are made from. Thanks to Clay and Blake for thinking about the guides perspective, that was totally cool! If you knew Clay and Blake you would see why, as a Chilean would say these folks are Bakan!!! (Totally Cool Dudes!!)

That night I cooked dinner on a disco and we drank into the wee hours of the moring, got up and fished another day!

Nico, Clay, Blake and Francisco. The Yelcho Gang! CONGRATULATIONS BLAKE AND CLAY, CO-WINNERS OF THE SIZZLER OF THE WEEK AWARD!!

You shine you crazy diamond!
*STAY TUNED SIZZLERS AS WE HEAD OUT FOR 13 DAYS WITH HENRY HOSSFELD AND HIS DAUGHTER LUCIA** MANY RIVERS TO YOU, JACK TROUT AND THE TEAM TRUCHA!!
