**MOUTH OF THE LOWER KLAMATH STEELHEAD SIGN-UPS FOR AUGUST 22ND TO AUGUST 31ST**
The summer sweet peas are here! Nothing I like better than to walk along the shoreline picking raspberries, sweet peas and blackberries. All the rains this past spring have brought out the most incredible blooms I've ever seen. The Shasta-Trinity Forest is a great place to visit right now, especially near any river. Enjoy your great outdoors Sizzlers! jt
Out on the Upper Sac Hugh Dohi has a on a beauty! This spot is located way down near McCardle Flats below the Lamoine pool 1/2 mile.
What a beautiful rainbow Hugh! Hugh went on to catch many of these gin colored bows. Notice the rainbows that live in the gin colored sections of the Upper Sac drink and wear martinis
just to blend in....I know they drink a lot of those at the Bollibokka Club!
Hughbow rainbow! Hugh caught another bigger one upstream around Pollard and mentioned what a wonderful fight this trout put up. Hugh Dohi caught a 5 lb rainbow last year in the Upper Sac with a Jack Trout Guide!
This is called big hole on the Upper Sac. Shasta and I went there the other day to cool off, swim a little and do a little nymphing in the heat of the mid-day, about 2 pm. The swimming was perfect but the fishing was so slow. I caught two foul hooked trout, that told me that they are not feeding in the mid-day at all! We are meeting our customers through September at 6:30am fishing till 12:30pm, then we take a break and get back together at 4 or 5pm and fish till dark. This guarantees good fishing when the fish are feeding. We escape the mid-day heat and are guaranteed dry fly fishing in the evening on either the Upper Sac or McCloud Rivers. We are meeting folks at 11am for fly fishing on the Lower Sac and fishing till dark. What ever it takes to get you into trout during the quality hours, we're doing it! The Trinity is being lowered to 450 CFS on July 22nd and we have already had some great fishing below the Lewiston Dam, stay tuned next week to see!
Jeff Ramirez out casting a fly in the Upper Klamath
Chan Man caught 20 trout in the Upper Klamath that day!
Jeff landed a real fighter! I would like to thank the Ramirez family for coming up again, I always cherish my adventures with you and Chandler. jt
This is my customer Mike Foster, remember his 10lb steelhead he caught in January on the Upper Klamath? On this day we headed up to Gumboot Lake and caught some nice trout on streamers.
Most of the trout are planted, but are fun to fish for because of the scenic beauty Gumboot Lake has to offer in addition to viewing the resident Bald Eagles and Osprey.
A perfect place to escape from the mid-day heat being located at the 6000+ foot elevation.
We took a mid-day break and then headed to the McCloud River for the evening dry fly hatch. Mike caught this trout and others on dry flies. I have been having awesome dry fly fishing from 5 pm till dark on both the upper Sac and Mccloud Rivers. It's like July is late May and I think August will be a like a normal June up here...Lots of dry fly
action in the evenings.
I will be staying at the mouth of the Klamath River from August 22nd till August 31st to offer fly fishing for these monsters as they roll in from the ocean. We have a jet boat that can accommodate up to 8 anglers, but we prefer groups of 6 or less. This is the gig, $250 per angler up to 4 anglers. Groups of 5 or more the cost is $200 per person. I only have so many slots so get on it folks. I received so many calls after last year's trip. I knew I had to do something this year
to offer our Alaskan type fishing in California. I love the temps out there then also!! Last year from Blue Creeks down we saw a line-up that extended 500 yards long of ocean steelhead that ranged from 4 lbs to 15 lbs. Hope to guide you there the last week of August! 530-926-4540 Calaska hotline!
What a Florida Doll!
Miles Hogan with a nice Mccloud Rainbow!
The Mayfly Hatches are out!
**Dear Mr. Stienstra,
After reading your recent article entitled "Fishing is easy in Northern Calif....," I booked a trip with Jack Trout for last Friday. He took me to the McCloud River just below the dam at McCloud Lake. It was an excellent experience in every way. Thank you for the recommendation.
Sincerely,
Allen Sanford
Fly Fishing near Cantara Loop can be good right now early and late. Are you brave enough to penetrate the Box Canyon? I think there's a reward up there for you! jt
The incredible Castle Crags: our local version of Yosemite!
Rob Brown in Chile on the Rio Maullin this past season! I would like to invite you down to Chile this November through April as we embrace the 2006 seaon down there. My guides are ready, the drift boats are clean, the catarafts are new and there's a lunker with your name on it! Check out our new photos on www.jacktrout.com/chilelake from the 2005 season. Rob Brown sent me this email yesterday, I really got a kick out of it!**Thanks for the fun voice mail message. Sorry I was not there to pick up the phone....In between meetings but want to acknowledge your call. What are the exact times and logistics for the Steelhead trip? I can't do a full week. Leaving for New England early Sept. Can come alone or maybe with 1 or 2 others. I think John Wilhelm will be in Alaska...Got the bug. Helped a bunch of kids cast last evening at one of the Moraga CC ponds. The pond was filled with bass. Security came over to kick us out. Gave him a cigar, showed him how to cast a little - and before you knew it - he hooked about a 14 inch black bass. I told him that since we taught him something new and fun - he needed to back off and let the kids fish. He smiled and drove away....Take care, Rob**
