**SIGN-UPS START FOR CHILE 2006 / FALL STEELHEAD ON THE KLAMATH & TRINITY RIVERS*
4th of July in Mt Shasta is always a special day! The parade downtown is fun and finding a choice spot to view the fireworks is always an interesting endeavor. Last year I took my boat out on Lake Sikiyou and viewed the fireworks as they practically fell on us. This year I decided to drive up and find a spot to view from the Eddies Mountains.
I sure like the pictures my new Canon A95 takes. I've dropped this camera twice now in the river and after taking out the batteries and the film cartridge, 4 days later I was up and running again! I highly suggest if you're shopping for cameras you take a close look at the Canon. I lost every Sony I've ever dropped into the river....jt
Look very close at the picture, you can see Crazy E ( Eric Rideout) skiing the at the top of Mt Lassen. Isn't that neat to think that while we're out fly fishing, Eric and Chet are out skiing the slopes! What a great place we live around, having so many recreational options at our disposal. I think the hardest decision is what direction to head out into daily?
Ladies and Gentlemen, the Shasta Crusty Barnicles !
Back out in my raft on the Upper Sac Bernie and Dave had fun in the sun as they floated down and hooked many nice rainbows
nymphing small mayflies.
Bernie reeled in this shark and their week of learning more became easier as each trout landed was like climbing another peg on the ladder of knowledge. I really liked guiding these guys, everything was so new to them and they always seemed to have smiles on their faces and had nothing but great things to say about my area.
We stopped at a spot near Shot Gun Creek on the Upper Sac and Bernie hooked into a screamer while fly fishing this fast slot. After a very long fight, Bernie landed this missile.
Nice trout Bernie! Have a great summer, I had great trips with you and Dave, hope to see you back this fall.jt
Dave fished the hole at Bottoms Out rapid and caught 2 or 3 trout.
Here's Shasta out in my backyard playing with our new kitten Katie Baby. All the flowers are going off right now in the Mt Shasta area!
Here's Matt Hill going through the unpredictable April Falls rapid on the Upper Sac.
I got to do a television show on the Fine Living Network, this was my co-host in the show. What a cutie!
Out on my last commercial trip of the season Kelly from Pennsylvania hooked what I think was my largest trout ever in the Upper Sac. This is a Kamloop from Shasta Lake in the 5 to 6lb range!
Kelly did so great reeling in this beast, she has won honors as SIZZLER OF THE WEEK! CONGRATULATIONS SIZZLER!
Stone fly hatch on the Klamath is over but the memories still linger. I thought overall the stone fly season on the Klamath was just ok. The hatch was good but not great compared to previous years and the sizes were down this year?
The flows were perfect through June, so go figure??? Fishing is like predicting weather, some days are more accurate than others...
My brother Tim came over with an old friend from high school
Dale Lambert. We caught lots of trout and talked about the olden days growing up over in Portola.
Tim, thanks for coming and visting, I'll see you soon over at Pops house. Good luck on your new house being built over near Portola! Love ya Bro! Jack
Like always our 4th of July festivities ran like a well oil
disc drag fly reel. Due in part by our awesome Mt Shasta Police and our Chief of Police, Parish Cross. He is very well respected in our community and is the right fit for a ever so changing Mt Shasta. Parish likes to fly fish and is a generally likeable character. Way to go Parish! Keep up the great work the town loves you! jt
This is my friend Michelle from Mt Shasta up at Cliff Lake over the holiday weekend! **HOPE YOU ENJOYED THOSE ADVENTURES, STAYED TUNED AS WE TOUR MANY OTHER RIVERS, LAKES AND MOUNTAINS** MANY RIVERS TO YOU, JACK TROUT
