**UPPER SACARMENTO RAFT TRIPS BEGIN THIS WEEK! LOWER SAC AND KLAMATH RIVERS TOO!**
Log Jam at Snaggle Tooth:
This is a jog jam we encountered on my annual 1st rafting trip of the year on the Upper Sac. I brought along two of my good buddies and guides, Chuck and Steven to check out new dangers and fish our way down the river in a fast but productive 5 1/2 hour trip. This log jam is located below the Snaggle Tooth Run, just above Pollard Flats. The day we ran the Upper Sac the flows were at 2500 CFS and we cleared the jam easily just having to duck our heads. But at 3000 CFS this weeks flows, this could be a real trip stopper! Please have rafting experience before doing this trip, I suggest taking a rafting course through one of the local Mt Shasta rafting companies or hire me to show you the river. Every year I find people's gear, this is a class 3 river with lots of hidden dangers you should know about before thinking of fly fishing and rafting it. jt
Chuck deer meadows run:
Chuck hooked into a nice fish just down from Sims Flat and the fight was on. The water was so clear and you could see trout everywhere! We saw visible reds where the trout were spawning, but it was the trout following the spawning trout up from Lake Shasta that were biting the flies on our hooks and this got us all excited.
Chuck deer meadows run:
I had never rafted the Upper Sac and fly fished it before this early in the year and even at higer water, we could see trout rising to may flies and trout swimming underneath the raft like an episode of Star Search!
Steven Bertrand Scenic Shot:
Steven put on a Parachute Adams size 14 and got a few to take his fly on the surface, but it was all the beautiful places you got to toss your fly into that also complimented our journey.
Upper Sac Buck:
Chuck landed this nice buck on the Upper Sac!
Upper Sac March Brown:
We saw many kinds of may flies including this March Brown, Grey Drakes, and others that were smaller. We saw fish rising in bubble lines all the way down the river during the mid-day from 12:30pm to 2:30pm. Then we found it more effective to switch back to nymphs.
Upper Sac Chuck march 2005:
Chuck also caught this pointer on the Upper Sac and we all cheered that the Upper Sac was now open all year around and we weren't catching spawners!
Upper Sac Kamloop? 2005:
Mike Hibbard caught this trout this past week on the Upper Sac, sure is a cromer! I think this is a Kamloop from Shasta Lake. They planted Kamloops in the 1960's and we catch them often on the Mccloud River down on the lower McCloud.
Maullin March 31st 2005:
Back in Chile! Francisco got one of our customers into this lovely Brown Trout we estimated at 8lbs. What a healthy trout and I heard the fight was epic, Way to go Francisco!
Maullin Sea Run Brown April 2005:
But he wasn't done yet check out this awesome Sea-Run brown he caught later on! What a day on the Rio Maullin that Tim had. It's Fall now in Chile and fish are starting to run up from the ocean and migrate in from the fjords where they have been staging waiting for the cooler waters to stir up their interest and give them an incentive to move.

Klamath Colt Fish on!:
Over on the Klamath River Colt has on his very first Steelhead on a fly rod or any rod for that fact!
Colt Nice steely March 31 2005:
What a nice first catch, Way to go Colt! YOUR'RE MY SIZZLER OF THE WEEK AWARD WINNER! CONGRATULATIONS SIZZLER! A VERY FINE CATCH INDEED, JACK TROUT
Matt Holding trout April 2005:
Matt and Marcy came to visit me this past week. Two med students from Stanford University out to learn a little more about trout anatomy on the Klamath River. Matt enjoyed the fight this wild guy displayed and released him unharmed to grow up and bite another day.
Steelhead shot 04 2005:
But what a nice wild Spring Run Steelhead! jt
Marcy Steelhead shot 03 2005:
Marcy caught this nice Steely and her day was made. Between the two of them, they caught over 15! What a grand day, with great fishing memories. I think it's great when a couple learns fly fishing at the same time, you end up always being at the same level. This sport has no gender bias, except women listen better than men and seem to be a little more luckier?
Eric's powerful steely 2005:
Eric and Sam came to visit this week and we had another great day out in paradise! This was one strong fish that pulled line out of Eric's reel like he had changed his mind and decided to head back to the ocean. Eric did a great job of letting the trout run his course and landed the fish with no questions asked.
Eric's steely 04 2005:
Ah, what a great catch! It was really nice meeting you and Sam, take care and enjoy the rest of your trip!**HOPE YOU ENJOYED THOSE PICTURES AND STORIES FROM CALIFORNIA TO CHILE. STAY TUNE AS WE RAFT THE UPPER SAC AND CHECK OUT THE LOWER SAC ON MORE ADVENTURES! MANY RIVERS TO YOU, JACK TROUT
