As we head into July on a great summer weather year, some cows take a jog out in the Edgewood area. Mt Shasta, lurking in the background has lost a lot of its snow already and looks forward to another Winter with a lot of more snow and weather. But for now, things are like spring conditions above 7000 feet. Monkshood, Twin Bells, Shasta Lillies and most of the other high altitude wild flowers come out now until August. These areas can be accessed best in the Eddies on the Pacific Crest Trail. Try the Stewert Springs Road up to the back side of Mt Eddy Crater. Dead Fall Lakes are so cool, Sizzlers, and the wild flowers compliment the adventure! Let me know how you do and what you see. JT

Some of the wild flowers that grow up at the higher elevations also grow down as far as 2000 feet. This wild columbine flower was growing right on the edge of the McCloud River as Jerry Waybright released his trout.

Jeff Waybright had a ball catching as many as 6 in a row in this one spot on the McCloud!

Dad caught this pretty rainbow in some pocket water with a size 18 may fly nymph. Way to go Jerry Waybright, you're my SIZZLER OF THE WEEK AWARD WINNER!!! CONGRATULATIONS SIZZLER!!

Where is the Love! Check out this red damsel making a heart shape while making %$$#%$)*&_ with his wife. The Klamath River has many damsels and dragon flys, with a whole array of colors, including black and white checkered, green and black, bright yellow and many other friendly colors. They don't bite and I've never seen more colored ones anywhere else. I call this my, "Red Hot Damsel Love Thing!" jt (haha!) Wow! That must take practice.....

Bill James had a take on his huge stonefly right in front of him and set the hook in time to keep this nice steelhead on. Later he commented on what a great trip he had catching over 15 1/2 lbers 10 to 15 inches. Sure can't wait for Fall Steelhead fishing now that the stonefly hatch is over on the Klamath. Good thing the canyons of the McCloud, Upper Sac and Pit are fishing productively as well as the High Mountain Lakes.... jt

Bill caught many that day this size on dry flys, in all it was a good stonefly season in June, all except for the Bureau of Reclamation lowering the flows under 800 CFS. I 've seen dead crayfish, dead pelicans (4) that have no decent landing depths, algae growth that soaks up oxygen and kills habitat and eventually trout, steelhead and salmon. I wish someone would take their suit off for once and get down and actually take a look at the, "state of the river!" instead of just reading a report. The Bureau, Noah fisheries and all involved with these low levels need to have their heads examined and given a saliva test. How many times must you be told not to lower the river below 1000 CFS? NEVER, NEVER, NEVER!! The Fish and Game has said it, the tribes and all of us who have a vested interest in the health of the fishery. You have no idea how to manage a river correctly. You've proven that over the last five years. Congratulations Jack Trout

The Sun Burst Picture was taken out in the woods near my house towards the Eddies side of the valley. There are many sunsets like this one appearing now in the Mt Shasta area.

Up at Castle Lake Scott and Dad caught as many 15 on dry flys! Heck even when he had one on they were still rising and this made dad happy!

Scott said, He had a great time Dad and his little brother on Castle Lake, I bet I'll see him back next year! jt

Upper Falls is looking mighty fine this time of year, Summer tours have been steady and great as we head into the tour time of year!

Here's the New, The One and Only Wine and Spirits Fly Shop of Mt Shasta!! Located at 1004 Mt Shasta Blvd. I opened it with Ron Driml in May and we have been doing great. Come on by and visit--we have great rod combos: Hardy, Diamond Back, Elk Horn etc. We're open until 10 pm
and have great Umpqua Flys for $1.65 when you buy a dozen of them. I have my indicators there for sale!!!**HOPE YOU LIKE THIS WEEK'S TALE, SEE YOU NEXT WEEK FROM A COOL LOCATION** JACK TROUT
